R34 Wannabe: Guess what car is this?

This car looks very convincing from far. Is it a genuine R34? If you see it up close, the dimensions are different. Nevertheless, it has a striking resemblance to the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. Is it a Hyundai Elantra? A Proton Wira? Proton Waja perhaps? Or a Ford ? The answer is, it is actually a Honda Accord! :D

Proton Wira with DIY Hellaflush rim

This brave Malaysian guy had his rims custom made, which appeared to  be based off your standard steel rims. He also drives his car around on a daily basis. Not so certain of its durability, but it sure looks great and gives the car a completely different look with its stance! Respect! Proton Wira DIY Hella flush project!

Hella Flush? Is it worth the trouble?

What is hella flush? It is a terminology for cars that have their tyres "flushed" with their fenders. A picture is worth a thousand words :D

I have always admired those slammed down cars. Despite its looks, it is not practical at all. You will have trouble going up and down parking rams, over speed bumps, and of course potholes will be an even bigger enemy.  With the sad condition of some of Malaysian's road, and their insensitivity towards lowered cars (you get some speed bumps with surprisingly sharp gradient, like the Earth's tectonic plates just suddenly decided to slam together). Practicality aside, the car needs to be installed with lowered suspension, chamber kits, deep dish rims, and stretched tyres. Fender rolling is also a necessity. All this trouble just for looks? Is it worth it? I would say yes! (If I had another car to roll around in during weekdays).

Apart from VIP styled cars, classic cars are also very much into this hella flush scene. KE70 is a good platform to play, as the car is relatively cheap and the stance totally gives the car a new look! In a later post I will write about a Malaysian Hella Flush-ed Proton Wira!

Vinyl Vehicle Wraps : Lamborghini Gallardo

Nice satin white Gallardo

Vinyl wraps have become quite popular in recent years. One of the reason could be that the original paint can be maintained, and at the same time users can achieve a refreshing new look which may or may not be temporary. Vinyl wraps are not cheap though; they can cost more than a paint job in most cases! Furthermore, for glossy finishes it is not as easy to achieve with vinyl wraps. Most wraps now are of the matte type, which are non-reflective. In Malaysia, whole car wraps can cost up to RM3,000 easily (depending on quality etc). Quality paint jobs cost about the same or less. Furthermore, you can apply textures such as carbon fibre, stainless steel and so on.

Advantages of Vinyl wraps:

-Can be removed easily
-Not permanent and reversible
-Allows for textures such as carbon fibre
-Protects original paintjob
-Depending on your country, vinyl wraps CAN be CHEAPER than respraying your car

New Suzuki Kizashi in Malaysia!

The Suzuki Kizashi, looking very much alike the Toyota Mark X from the rear has finally been launched in Malaysia! Competing against the VW Passat, Peugeot 508, Kia K5 and Ford Mondeo, this car has a tough competition ahead. Despite being smaller than its competitors, the Suzuki Kizashi offers a very proportionate body; the front fender and tyre distance reminds me of an european car like BMW. This pose is quite sporty.
Looks quite good! (IMHO)
Priced at 147,888 for the SDLX trim, it comes with 6 airbags, traction control, ESP, leather seats, 10 way electric memory seats, auto cruise, keyless entry and push start, ABS, EBD, BA and Hill Assist, auto folding side mirrors, auto leveling HID lights, auto dimming rear view mirror, and 17 inch alloy rims.Quite well featured don't you think?

The sport variant is priced at RM158,188 and comes with 18 inch rims, sport suspension, different front bumper, and chrome exterior trim. The interior is also complemented by a sporty leather gear knob and silver stitch highlights.

Rear reminds me of a Toyota Mark X

Conclusion? Overall the car looks quite promising, performs quite well and should be anyone's list that is looking for a sporty sedan. 0-100 in 8.8 seconds isn't too shabby at all!

Engine: 2.4L 4 Cylinder, 176bhp (131kW) / 230Nm Torque @ 4,000rpm.
Transmission: CVT Gearbox
Acceleration: 0-100km/h in 8.8 seconds
Top Speed: 205km/h

Lotus Esprit: forgotten car (1976 and 2004)

Usually when we talk about Lotus cars what comes to our mind is usually the Lotus Elise. Maybe after being featured quite frequently in Need for Speed game series, the Lotus Elise has become synonymous with the brand itself. However, not many people know of the existence of the Lotus Esprit. Made between 1976 to 2004, the Esprit spanned several generations:

Lotus Esprit S1 (1976)
Engine: Lotus 907 2.0L 4 cylinder - 140-160bhp
140 lb·ft (190 N·m)
Transmission: 5 speed manual
claimed 0-100km/h - 6.8 seconds
Top Speed: 222km/h
Weight: 1000kg

Lotus Esprit S2 (1978)
New air duct near rear window
Integrated front spoiler

Lotus Esprit S3 &Turbo variant (1981)
engine: Lotus 912 2.2L 4 cylinder - same 140-160bhp
160 lb·ft (217 N·m)

Turbo engine: Lotus 910, 2.0L 215bhp-250bhp
220 lb·ft (300 N·m)
0-100km/h in 5.4-6.1 seconds
Top speed 263km/h

The S3 is followed by several redesigned versions.

Doesn't the Lotus Esprit look very much like the DMC Delorean? Yes because:

"The DeLorean (also known as the DMC-12) was designed by DeLorean. John
DeLorean contracted with a specialist U.S. subcontractor to design andbuild a prototype based on some ideas that he had. He then contractedLotus to develop and certify the production car and set up themanufacturing system. The final chassis design looks very much likethe Esprit chassis. The cars were actually built at the DeLoreanfactory in Dunmurry, south of Belfast, Northern Ireland."

Ariel Atom : Custom DIY, only in China!

The real Ariel Atom

Close enough!

Now we all know that China can copy anything, from your iPads, iPhones, Mercedes Benz, BMW, etc; as long as there is a will, there is a way! Usually, these duplicates are made by people with the proper expertise and tools. However, in this case the sheer passion of a rural farmer has successfully (in his own right) made a duplicate of the Ariel Atom. With some practical modifications such as a more feasible engine, the whole project took him about a year. The end result? 0-100km in 10 seconds, powered from a Suzuki Alto GX600, 40 horsepower, 800cc motor. Weighing in at just 550 kilograms, if he had opt for a 1.6L engine such as a 4AGE I am sure he can do 0-100 in about 6 seconds or so.

This is where it all begins... from painted bamboo. Just kidding, he used steel pipes.

The chassis; made from scrap pipes!

Before painting

Porsche engineered exhaust and necessary lights. I do hope the cross support is removable, else it would be hard to service or repair the car.

Front spoiler may be a bit too narrow...

Apart from the seats, the car actually looks quite good

Game Review: Car Town (Facebook Game)

Car Town is a Facebook game where you own your own garage. Do job to make more money for your garage and purchase new and better cars. Decorate your garage the way you want and level up to expand so you garage to work on more cars at a time by hiring your Facebook friends to help you.

Car TownCar Town takes the concept made popular in games such as Café World and applies it to a garage. Instead of serving food you are a grease monkey working on various car problems for your customers. The concept is simple enough you have some car hoists in your garage that you click on and take jobs. As the owner you can also take a few jobs yourself away from your garage such as being a pizza delivery person or going on a road trip. Your garage jobs consist of things such as washing cars, installing fuzzy dice, oil changes, wheel changes, and so on. You will get more jobs for higher payouts as you level up in the game. Your garage will start out as a modest establishment but over time you can grow it into a thriving business with lots going on. You can decorate it too with different hoists, tool boxes, chairs, tables, even a pool table. Outside you will find a few cars hanging around and you can click on them to see what jobs they want done. You can edit your workers too and give them some basic options such as different clothes.

The Cars
Rating Excellent

Car TownThe game features many different cars you can own. As you level you even get to test drive some for a week. If you win races against your Facebook friends you get to keep the car for free but this isn’t easy since you need to win many races in one week to keep it. Cars include an 1957 Bel Air, 2010 Camaro, 2007 Silverado, 2008 Fusion, 1968 Beetle, and a whole host of other cars. The cars are actual images of real cars just squished together with oversize wheels. As you play you can see other cars drive past your garage area. You can click on any of your cars and sell them at when you wish if you are low on funds or just don’t want a car.

Your Garage
Rating Average

In addition to working on cars you can add different items to your garage. Some items are functional add will add coins to your account. For example you can add the air hockey table at level three which will give you thirteen coins in ten minutes if you click on it. Other items include a gas pump, pinball machine, and snack dispenser. You can add tables, chairs, flooring, walls, different decorations, and signs too. There is a decent selection of things here to add to your shop but there could be more. One thing needed is some more garage related items such as tool boxes, only one cabinet was available. A large sign outside your garage will flash with new information about the game such as added cars which is a nice touch.

General Game Play and Conclusion
Rating Good

Car Town isn’t a ground breaking Facebook game but it’s a nice change from farming or running a restaurant. There are a great number of different cars you can own in this game and jobs to do. The garage itself could use some more items as decorations but overall this is a fun little game that will get you dreaming about that car you have always wanted to own.
