Proton Saga FLX Campro 1.3 to 1.6 conversion

Proton Campro 1.3 convert to 1.6

Do you own a 1.3-Litre Campro Proton Saga FLX, Saga BLM, Saga FL, or Satria Neo? You can actually convert the 1300CC Campro engine to 1600CC Campro and get an extra 300cc! What does this extra 300cc of Campro power bring you? Well for starters, with the Campro 1.3 convert to 1.6, you will get about 14 extra horsepower and 30Nm of torque. No replacement for displacement! Essentially other parts are the same, the injectors and throttle body are also the same.

So what would you need to stroke the 1.3 Campro to 1.6? The stroker kit would consist of: Campro 1.6 crankshaft, Campro 1.6 conrods and pistons. All these can be bought easily on Mudah.my and sells for below RM2,000. Along with the main Campro 1.6-Litre stroker parts, you would need new engine bearings and piston rings, which would cost a few hundred. The whole 1.3-Litre to 1.6-Litre Campro conversion costs RM2,500-3,000 inclusive of labour. Was it worth it? Totally!

Note: The 1.6-Litre Campro pistons and 1.3-Litre pistons have a different head design, with the 1600cc giving a lower compression while the 1.3-Litre has a higher compression. The conrod lengths are also different.

Any possibility convert the 1.3L Campro iamf to 1.6L Campro cps? Is it more difficult and complicated? Thanks.
From
William Y.

Hi William,

Yes to convert the Campro 1.3 IAFM to Campro CPS would be much more costly and troublesome, as you would need the whole CPS engine head complete with the intake manifold (VIM instead of IAFM) in addition to the 1,600cc stroker parts. The injectors, ECU, and some small parts are different too. Best if you can find a Campro CPS halfcut from those whom have upgraded to 1.8 GSR engine and need to dispose of the original CPS engine. Furthermore, the gearbox and ratios are also different.

Alternatively, if you want more powerful without the trouble just stroke it to 1,600cc with bolt on turbo, you can get very good power.

Note that your gearbox also needs to be changed along with this new found power, so the total cost for a good setup is RM15,000 onwards (inclusive of 1,600cc conversion, gearbox ratio and clutch plate upgrade), brake upgrade, and Haltech management. Does not include forged engine internals.

Hope this information helps!

Wow, it's amazing.. tempting sia...
any other difference besides de power and torque?
like consumption etc.. :-)

Very nice to drive now, highway I can hit 140km/h quite easily without much issue. Torque wise, I guess overall the car is great, climb Genting on 2nd gear all the way. Previously I need to switch to 1st gear during certain slopes. Normal driving I rarely need to rev more than 2.5k RPM.

Fuel consumption same as during 1.3 (1.3 stock: 10-11km/L, 1.3 BOT w/o mgmt 8-10km/L, 1.6 BOT w/o mgmt 8-10km/L) ... but bear in my mine is with bolt on turbo without installing management. I still get about 40-50km per box on the fuel indicator. Cheers!

Best part: road tax and insurance @ 1300cc price! :D Cheers

Well, what can I say..
it's just simply AWESOME!!!
sounds like it's an overall flawless improvement.. i dunno how it works but it's just nice~
gotta save for it now :-D

does my gearbox need to changed to 1.6L gearbox too?

bro ur car flx right? same stroker kit used to upgrade 1.6 campro? i think flx use iafm+..any different?

Anonymous said...

I own a saga flx 1.3(M) nearly half year, and i stay at melaka. If the convert cost below 3k may be i will decide to convert it to 1.6L. Please recommende me a realible workshop to do that. Thanks a lot.

If just change to 1.6 IAFM but no B.O.T can use the stock 1.3 gearbox?

Unknown said...

Very nice. Do we need to rebore the 1.3 block?

Jackson Oh said...

No need to rebore. :)

Jackson Oh said...

Can no problem, I am on 1.6 IAFM with 1.3 gearbox too.

Jackson Oh said...

I don't know any in Melaka but yes it should cost below RM3k. You will need to take out the whole engine though (change piston and conrod together), so best if you do it when you need to overhaul the engine.

Jackson Oh said...

No difference but the crankshaft gear need to be swapped from your old crankshaft to the new one.

Jackson Oh said...

No need, can reuse the 1.3 gearbox. Shorter ratio + more power = awesome acceleration!

Unknown said...

is there any problem until now with the conversion 1.3 IAFM to 1.6 IAFM? other than that. would u recommend this to a new saga.. cause i want to know the risk of problems with the engine if i convert it to 1.6 iafm parts...

Jackson Oh said...

No problem so far. For peace of mind just drive as it is, save money and upgrade to a better car :D

any recommend workshop in kl??

Unknown said...

Hai jackson.....

If 1.3 convert 1.6 need change ECU or not? Only change crankshaft & piston right?
How about fuel save? or same like 1.3....

Anonymous said...

any shop in johor who does this??

Ciku said...

Hi there,
im using campro 1.3(A), where can i do this upgrade?
near kuantan area?? or just buy the parts & assemble it at any workshop??

Bro, can I know wat car r u using?
Saga FLX? CVT gearbox kah?

Anonymous said...

Currently I'm using Saga FLX SE 1.6, I wonder; can I use the 1.3 head to get benefit of higher compression ratio (but maintaining other components)?

Unknown said...

bro, you have 1 wrong info there. the throttle body may look the same but actually has bigger diameter in the 1.6. crankshaft is also different due to less counter weights and shorter arms. thats why the pistons on 1.3 are higher com. they counter back the lack of compression due to components. just sharing.

Unknown said...

if its already a 1.6 engine, can just swap out the piston heads. maintain the crankshaft and conrods. easily costs around 600 to get it done fully. (include if you change conrod bearings and such.)

Hello there.. I'm currently using Saga flx 1.6 auto.. Just want to ask some opinion here.. First, if I want to convert my gearbox into manual, what kind of gearbox is suitable, and the cost of it?? Also, if I step on the race pedal in P mode, why the rpm can't exceed more than 3000?? soryy, I'm new in this stuff....

Jackson Oh said...

Hi bro, nice info. Yup I know the crankshaft is different. For the throttle body that is a good info as I saw the part number are the same from Proton. :)

Jackson Oh said...

Hi, yo can probably use back any Campro 1.6 manual transmission. However I think from auto to manual you might need to get the manual ecu as well. The swap should cost RM1,600-RM2,400 for halfcut gearbox, gear lever, gear pedals & labour. Best if you can get someone who wants to swap from manual to auto. For auto transmission the TCU will limit your rev when you are not in D, to prevent unnecessary damage to the engine/transmission.

Jackson Oh said...

Hi Mr. Johor guy, manual transmission :)

Jackson Oh said...

I think IAFM won't bring you much good bro, little benefit. Maybe if you want more bang for buck get EMS-1 and tune your car. Cost would be around RM1500, you get more power, more efficient A/F ratio.

Jackson Oh said...

Hi Ciku,

Yup you can get the parts and any workshop should know how to install it. Btw, I'm not sure if the 1.3 ECU will know how to compensate for the extra capacity of the engine. Better to install piggyback like EMS or Unichip as well for peace of mind and full potential.

Jackson Oh said...

Cheers!

so,can i make this part clear?are this mean the original from 1.6 saga flx just switch this part to make a different cc from 1.3 or there will be a full spec adjustable to get the original performance of original 1.6 saga flx?

Anonymous said...

Saga FLX 1.3 CVT if do this convertion, is there any problem on the CVT or over heat?.

Bro, i curently drive saga blm '08 1.3A. After gone through ehat u had share, i had great intention to convert my 1.3A to 1.6A. Is it possible by just change to 1.6 crankshaft & camrod & piston?? Any other part require? Can you list out so i can get the necessary part for it. Thanks..

Jackson Oh said...

Yes that is it! You can find the parts on mudah. Try to search for campro crankshaft and you will get a few sellers. They should have more details.

All the best!

Bos..sory..how can 1.6 piston get into 1.3 block without rebore?? I think u hve wrong info about no need rebore the 1.3 block..

Unknown said...

hey there, i want to ask,
-total cost all of this?
-do i need to swap ECU also?

bro, you have 1 wrong info there. the throttle body may look the same but actually has bigger diameter in the 1.6. crankshaft is also different due to less counter weights and shorter arms. thats why the pistons on 1.3....
thats mean will damage the engine or not?

Unknown said...

Hi bro! Can you suggest any shops in KL that can do this conversion? Or do i have to buy all the parts separately?

Jackson Oh said...

Hi bro, you can try this shop:
