Proton Cars may receive lifetime power window warranty!

From Paultan.org:

When there’s a mention of ‘Proton’, the tag ‘power windows’ won’t be too far away. In fact, regulars of this website would know that whenever there’s a Proton related post (or even unrelated posts), the infamous issue will be brought up by certain quarters.
It’s no myth, and many have experienced it before, but Proton has turned the corner in making reliable power windows, and in a show of confidence, there will soon be a life warranty for Proton power windows!
Tackling the infamous topic at a quality campaign, Proton MD Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin said that the carmaker’s power windows are now defect free, but the ingrained perception is hard to reverse. “We have improved the quality by leaps and bounds, but the negative perception lingers. The perception of the public at large is very important, and it is our biggest challenge,” he lamented.

The “once and for all” solution? A lifetime guarantee, it is. “We will guarantee that the power windows will work,” he declared. But like in all warranties, terms and conditions apply, and these details would be sorted by the end of this month.
Syed Zainal also shared an interesting personal experience. The Proton boss related his experience from the back seat of a Proton Waja airport limo from KLIA to his house in Subang Jaya.
“The driver would open his door instead of using the power window when we stopped at the toll booth. My wife was giggling and poking fun at me. So I asked him if the window was spoilt. He said no. He said his friend told him that if he used the power window too much, it would break down!” Syed Zainal said to laughter from the crowd.

“I gave the taxi driver my card, and asked him to do me a favour by using the power window. I told him to call me on my mobile phone if the window breaks down. He has yet to call me,” he said.
“Some people, although they have never driven a Proton, are saying Protons are not good. We want to put a stop to that,” he added. We take that he meant recent Protons under his watch – they’ve certainly improved by leaps and bounds!

Toyota MR2 Hybrid

Shown in Toyko Autoshow 2010, the Toyota MR2 hybrid built in collaboration with Toyota and Gazoo Racing will show off its performance at the 2011 24-hour endurance race in Nürburgring in Germany.

Based off the original MR2 spyder, this one is retrofitted with a 3.5 litre V6 engine and electric motors in the front and rear, making it an all wheel drive hybrid. Sporting a 245-295 horsepower engine, this hybrid only weighs less than 3300 pounds. Despite the original MR2 interior, the exterior has been completely remodeled. In my opinion it now sports an exotic car look. Any body kit designers care to make one for the standard MR2?

$14.000 Lamborghini Aventador confiscated by Police in China

In May I posted a story about a man in Kunming who made himself a 14.000 dollar copy of a Lamborghini Aventador. The car was finally finished earlier this week and the happy owner took it for a ride. It didn’t last long, the police stopped him and confiscated the Lamborghini. The car was licensed as a Nissan Cefiro and according to the cops it didn’t look like a Cefiro anymore.

The incredible creation at a police station. Most brilliant thing: the engine is still up front. The unlucky owner also gets a 500 yuan fine for not having his license plates attached. He will get the car back after paying another fine for the fact that it doesn’t look like a Bluebird.

Interior still needs some work. When the owner gets his dreammachine back he might try to drive it again, but when the police catches him a second time they will unlikely give the car back. So, on to the track then!

Police can’t help being impressed. Scissor-doors perfectly done

A Lamborghini Aventador for 14.000 dollar from China

The owner of a hair salon in Kunming in Yunnan Province was so impressed with the new Lamborghini Aventador that the decided to make one for himself. His creation is based on a 1995 Nissan Bluebird with a 200hp 2 litre turbocharged 6-cylinder engine from the Nissan Cefiro.

The proud owner worked for 12 days on his dream car and paid a total of 90.000 yuan (13.851 dollar). The panels are made of steel. The engine is actually still up front and has been tuned to produce 400hp.

There is still some work to be done: the paint job, the windows, the head lights and finding a way to make it road legal.

The man behind the wheel.

Porsche Cayenne II: Lumma Design Body kit

The new Porsche Cayenne already looks menacing in its stock form, but Lumma Designs from Germany decided to up it on notch: the Porsche Cayenne CLR 558 GT with Lumma Design is now officially the slickest, sexist Porsche Cayenne! (in my opinion).

The kit comprises of a new wide body fender arches, integrated nicely into a redesigned front bumper (which reminded me of Evo 10's front grille). In addition, there is plenty of daylight running lights and new LEDs everywhere. Audi must be jealous now. To rub it in, there are 2 pairs of fog lights on each side. To lighten the heavy fat Cayenne, a carbon fibre hood with air vents replaces the original. Not that it makes much of a weight difference.

The rear bumper is also redesigned, and now incorporated a diffuser and central mounted exhaust pipes similar to mini Cooper's. The headlights & tail lights are now smoked. There are also new new and tail gate spoilers.

The weight saved from the carbon fibre hood is unfortunately overshadowed by the massive 22" rims. Interior wise, just the usual aluminium pedal set, illuminated door sills, leather floor mats etc.

Performance wise is however a letdown. Despite the fierce exterior, the only performance modifications are a new set of sport exhaust system that purrs. Would I buy it? Definitely! This is the sexist Cayenne body kit to-date.

Sonax Care Care Product Review

I recently purchased some Sonax product, and overall the quality is pretty alright. For a normal end-user, it does it job perfectly.

I purchased the SONAX Xtreme Polish & wax 3 NanoPro, SONAX Xtreme ActiveShampoo 2 in 1, and SONAX Xtreme Wax

The polish and wax series 3 is very good, it can remove tar easily (quite strong). Compared to industrial paint shop quality polish, the quality loses marginally. One thing is the application and removal is quick, unlike industrial polish which takes much longer to achieve the same result, and even longer for better result.

The active shampoo does it job perfectly, leaving the car clean. No complaints here. The Xtreme wax gives a good deep gloss, as illustrated by the picture below. Overall Sonax products are value for money.

After Sonax shampoo wash, Sonax polish on the bonnet, and Sonax wax on the whole car. Quite glossy!
